FSD(BB3)

The API BB3(model FSD) pump is a horizontally mounted, axially split, multistage between-bearings centrifugal pump designed to API 610 / ISO 13709 standards. Its defining feature is a horizontally split casing with the suction and discharge nozzles integrally cast into the lower half, allowing the top half to be removed for rotor inspection or replacement without disturbing the connected piping or driver. The pump utilizes multiple closed impellers arranged in opposed groups, which hydraulically balances axial thrust and minimizes bearing loads. This configuration, combined with a dual volute casing design, provides radial force balance across the full operating range.

These pumps are engineered for high-pressure, high-head services across the petroleum, petrochemical, and power generation industries. Common applications include crude oil and product pipelines, boiler feed water, water injection for oil recovery, and amine scrubbing for carbon capture. The BB3 design is particularly valued for its ability to handle high suction pressures and elevated temperatures, with standard ranges extending from -40°C up to 200°C and pressure ratings reaching Class 1500.

Technically, the BB3 features a heavy-duty shaft with short bearing spans to minimize deflection under high loads. Bearing arrangements include ball/ball, sleeve/ball, or sleeve/tilting-pad options depending on power level and speed requirements, with lubrication via oil rings or pressurized systems. The pump is fully compliant with API 682 seal chambers, accommodating single, tandem, or double cartridge mechanical seals. Available in materials ranging from carbon steel to duplex stainless steel, the BB3 achieves flow capacities up to 3,000 m³/h and heads up to 2,500 meters.
