FDD(BB2)

FDD(BB2)

The API BB2(model FDD) pump is a horizontally mounted, radially split, between-bearings centrifugal pump designed to API 610 / ISO 13709 standards. Unlike the axially split BB1, the BB2 features a radially split casing with centerline mounting, which maintains alignment and minimizes thermally induced distortion during operation at elevated temperatures. It typically utilizes a double-suction impeller that hydraulically balances axial thrust, resulting in low NPSH requirements and reduced bearing loads. The rotor can often be removed for maintenance without disconnecting the suction and discharge piping, simplifying servicing in heavy-duty applications.

These pumps are engineered for high-pressure, high-temperature process services where reliability is critical. They are widely used in refineries, petrochemical plants, and oil and gas production for applications such as crude oil pipeline transport, charge pumps, water injection, and boiler feed boosting. The BB2 design handles fluids across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions up to 450°C (840°F), making it suitable for both light hydrocarbons and viscous process fluids.

Technically, the BB2 pump features a heavy-duty shaft with short bearing spans to minimize deflection under high loads. Bearings are typically oil-ring lubricated, with options for sleeve or tilting-pad configurations, and bearing housings often include provisions for temperature and vibration monitoring. The pump is available with API 682 cartridge mechanical seals and a variety of casing and impeller materials, including carbon steel, 12% chrome, and duplex stainless steel, to suit corrosive or abrasive services. With flow capacities reaching up to 5,000 m³/h and heads up to 600 meters, the API BB2 remains a standard choice for critical, high-energy pumping duties.

Product Features

Product Features

  • High-Pressure Capability – Radially split (vertically split) casing with a single-piece barrel or ring-section design, suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature services.
  • Robust Rotor Dynamics – Between-bearings support with a rigid shaft minimizes deflection, ensuring low vibration and long bearing life under severe duty.
  • Enhanced Sealing – Available with API 682 compliant cartridge mechanical seals, seal flush plans, and optional dual seals for toxic, flammable, or volatile fluids.
  • Thermal Stability – Centerline-mounted casing support minimizes thermal distortion and nozzle misalignment at elevated temperatures.
  • Back Pull-Out Design – Rotor assembly can be removed without disturbing the casing or suction/discharge piping, simplifying maintenance.
  • Standards Compliant – Fully compliant with API 610 / ISO 13709 heavy-duty process pump requirements.
